Circle C Renovation Project

Post Posted: Fri Dec 05, 2008 1:42 pm

CIRCLE C DISC GOLF COURSE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The course has now closed and will reopen in the spring of 2009. During this period cement tee pads, tee signs, benches, trash cans and erosion control measures will be installed.

Waterloo Disc Golf Club will be organizing work days, and we’ll post information here on the club web site, so check back periodically for dates and times, plus more info as it is available.

Thanks!

The baskets at Circle C have now been removed and the course is closed until further notice. Over the next 2-4 months, PARD will install concrete teeboxes, benches, trash cans, and new baskets. They will also be doing some trimming and clearing. Waterloo DGC will be re-designing the course back down to 18 holes, installing tee signs, timbers, laying stone along walking paths, and spreading mulch on all fairways. Waterloo anticipates beginning its portion of the project in January 2009.

More information on the project and volunteer opportunities will be posted on the PDGA message board, here on the club web site, and through Gordon’s email list as it becomes available.

If you want to get on the email list, just send an email to gordon @ ventbird.com and ask to be added (you can get back off the list later if you want with just another email).

Another work day at Circle C!

We had 15 people moving rock, setting timbers, picking up trash, and removing old tee markers and benches last Saturday. We got a lot of good work done.

Now we need to do it again on this Saturday too. Please try to come out and help; the more folks we have, the more work we can get done. The faster we can get the club’s portion of the work finished, the sooner the course will go back in. Mike has got the city crews working hard, and a good portion of the clearing has been done, you’ll be able to see the progress when you’re out there.

Saturday January 17th
9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Waterloo Disc Golf Club and Disc Nation will be having a workday at Circle C this Saturday, Mar 28 starting at 9am. This will probably (hopefully) be the last workday before the course re-opens. For the most part, there will be rock to move and mulch to spread. Please bring rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and work gloves.

As a bonus, Disc Nation will be giving volunteers $10 certificates for participating. Thank you, Disc Nation!

For more info about this work day please call Dan Mueller at 293-7592.

Circle C will not be open by this weekend due to lack of equipment and the weather. Last week PARD redirected a lot of its resources to the sod project at Zilker Park which left Circle C behind schedule and the rain this week has not allowed for enough work to be done to complete everything that still needs to be done before the course opens. Look for the course to be completed in another week or two.

----------------------------------------

On a related note...

The Waterloo Disc Golf Club’s 1st Saturday Monthly Mini at Circle C on May 2nd has been CANCELLED.

Please support the World’s Biggest Disc Golf Weekend Event at Circle R in Wimberley, the Double R Disc Golf Club’s Bag Tag Tournament, or the San Antonio Bud Open instead.

The Club’s next 1st Saturday Monthly Mini will be at Circle C on June 6.

Please help us spread the word as it was already announced and posted in several places and we don’t want anyone to drive out there Saturday morning only to find no course and no mini.

We will keep you updated on the revised opening date and any related activities as soon as we have more information.

The rain we have been getting has been great for everything… except for getting our course back. Hang in there with us, we hope it will be up soon.

sure would be nice if the course would be open before summer starts, it's been closed the entire season where its cool enough outside to make it much more enjoyable and not overgrown.

GREAT NEWS!

The Circle C Disc Golf Course in Austin is now open for play again!!!

While the project is not completely finished, it is close enough to get the course back in and to get players out there enjoying it. The new tee signs probably won’t be installed until next week (but they will be great), and there will be some small on-going projects out there for about the next month.

The Circle C re-opening is the culmination of years of work by Waterloo Disc Golf Club to get major improvements made on our disc golf courses. We hope, and expect, that this is just the beginning.

This project includes:

* A great partnership between Waterloo Disc Golf Club and City of Austin Parks & Recreation.
* The biggest investment by the city in disc golf since the early 1990s.
* Hundreds of volunteer hours put in by the club and its members, and over $6,000 of the club's money spent on the improvements.
* A re-designed course, now 18 holes, with short and long tee pads on many of the holes.
* Concrete tee pads and awesome tee signs on both the short and long positions.

The Club sends HUGE THANKS out to Mike Olse, Dan Mueller, Mike Graham, Josh Rippie, and all the other fantastic volunteers and workers who made this all happen; and to Disc Nation and Houck Design for their great support as well!

For questions about this project, please contact Dan Mueller at (512) 293-7592.
