new course north

Post Posted: Fri Oct 10, 2008 8:26 pm

I got permission from crosspointe church on Mcneil in North Austin to put in a disc golf course. The fairways are now cut and the full 18 holes will be played all together for the first time Saturday oct 11. I am trying to figure out the best way to raise the money for permanent baskets. My thoughts were to have a fundraising one day tourney with practice baskets but am open to suggestions. I have come up with $600 in pledges and the church has started an account specificly for the course so all donations are tax deductible and the course will be open to the public 7 days a week. any thoughts or ideas?

thank you Troy. The round went well on Saturday. There were three of us. The first ace was made. We shot some video. no discs were lost. We found a honey bee hive. lots of shade. the ceilings are low, but some can be thrown over. very technical.

Is this course set up all the time right now? I noticed that you were still trying to get permanent baskets. What's the status?

we are about $400 short of buying the first nine baskets. there is free shipping when baskets are ordered in sets of nine. when there are enough donations for the first nine I will order and set them. right now we are lugging around a practice basket and setting it up at each hole before we shoot. triples the amount of walking ugh! I was up there today figuring out which holes will be in the first nine. will probably be up there tomorrow morning too doing some clean up and trail work maybe some teebox leveling.

142 reads and no one has any ideas? ok, let's try a different approach. Who would be willing to play a mini or single day fundraising tourney at the church course? How much would people pay for entry if half went to buying baskets and half went to payout? don't be shy, shout it out. no need to raise your hands or anything.

I think you should ask around and find out what is going to happen to all of the baskets from Circle C when the renovation starts. There was talk about putting in new baskets. It's just an idea and may take longer than you wanting.

I would play in the tournament just to try out the new course. I have one portable basket that could be used as well.

Is the forum now dead?

Have you made any further progress on the course?

I was wondering the same thing. I have gathered donations totaling $1250 and have been pledged another $300. we need $1800 for the first nine baskets we are so close. I also have been promised some slightly used limestone builders being demoed from a jobsite I am working at. These will make the tees very easy to find while I am building the teebox signs. All the fairways are cut and all have been played with a practice basket. some have been filmed for a video for the church to try to bring more members into the sport. I have been given about 8 bags of concrete that were sitting in peoples garages to set the baskets when we get them. If anyone has a partial bag of concrete sitting around their house that is still good and want to get rid of it let me know.

If anyone wants to play it or just check it out, I live about 5 minutes from there and have a practice basket let me know. I would like to have video of more than just my wife and I playing the course.

I'd love to help put together a tourney or something early to raise the rest of the money to get this course in working order. If we can get 9 temp baskets to use we could play 2 rounds of 9 then move the baskets to the back for 2 rounds there. Or we can get 30 people to sign up for a tourney for $30 with $20 going to the new baskets. We can get 9 loaner baskets to round out the course. And while we might not be able to do payouts for the tourney we could do limited edition new course discs. I'd be more than happy to do the designs for the discs.

In any case, I'd love to go out there and play one weekend. I have a portable basket as well. Though I doubt I'll be able to for a few weeks now due to Thanksgiving and conflicting Christmas parties.

I'm up for a tourney, but my vote would be for a night tourney at one of the existing course with the proceeds going to fund the new course. A zilker night tourney would be a lot of fun.

This course is playable now. It still needs some tee box work, but is a lot of fun. Check it out on dgcoursereview.com for map and photos.

I helped out on another emerging church course today on bee caves rd. They want to open this new course in september but I think they are gonna need some help to do it. This is a much larger course on about 80 acres of hill country. Think park hill meets back 50 meets rivery meets mclain. This course has to potential to be as good or better than any course in the austin area. I encourage anyone who can carry a stick to come out and lend a hand. If you are interested, let me know and I will coordinate with the church to make this course happen.
