Waterloo Disc Golf Club
General Meeting

Monday, September 22, 2008
7:00 pm - Old Alligator Grill
3003 S. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX

Everyone is welcome to attend - (you do not have to be a club member)

Come find out about the major, upcoming project at the Circle C Disc Golf Course this Winter. This joint project between the Parks & Rec.Dept. and Waterloo DGC will be a move towards the kind of disc golf course that we’ve all been wanting to see in Austin. This project will take a lot of time, energy, and commitment from the disc golfers. Your thoughts and suggestions are needed to get it done right and quickly.

Discussion will also include possible projects at Zilker Park, 31st Waterloo DG Classic, and anything else people want to talk about.

We will have some nice door prizes to give away.
Food and drinks available for purchase.

For more information about this meeting please call Gordon Maxim-Kelley at (512) 858-0119 or Lou Moreno at 389-1853. You can also email the club at gordon @ ventbird.com or check out our website: www.austindiscgolf.org.

Just a reminder that our next general club meeting is on Monday.

Monday September 22nd
7 pm
Old Alligator Grill (at intersection of South Lamar and Manchaca)

This is an important meeting, and you do not have to be a club member to attend. We want everyone there.

---------------------------------------------

And a reminder to get your entries in for the Waterloo tournament right away. Registration has only been up for a few days and the tournament is over 2/3 full. We especially want more women to enter. We already have 3 pro women (and we want more) but we need some more ladies to fill out Adv. Women and Rec. Women.

To encourage more women to give it a try, we’ll make it risk-free. Sign up now and if you have to cancel, we’ll waive the cancellation fees. Nothing to lose, and a really fun experience to gain  Plus we always have extra stuff in the player’s packages for our women, plus CTP contests that are for the women only. Please Please come play Waterloo, we know you’ll have a great time!

A couple of more pro grand masters would be great too. We’ve already got two (and there may be some in the masters division that might be eligible/willing to move divisions).

Here is a direct link to the flyer on the club web site: www.austindiscgolf.org..._Flyer.doc

If for some reason that doesn’t work, just go to the site and look for the Waterloo Tournament information (easy to find): www.austindiscgolf.org

We use postmark to determine date of entry, so get yours in the mail NOW!

Thanks!

A meeting update from what I can remember.....

Circle C will have all of its baskets pulled up on December 1st 2008. They will be gone for a period of around 3 months! But don't panic!

This is due to the favored fight and reputation Mike has established with the City of Austin (COA), Parks Department. In a time of tight budgets and cuts, he has helped them stay committed to spending $80k-$100k on the course development!

Yes, you read the $$$ figure correct! The COA, with help from Waterloo, are looking at having this developed as an 18 hole “pay to play” course.

It will have all concrete Tee-boxes, Tee signs, mulched basket areas, mulched high traffic areas, trimmed trees, newly planted vegetation, consolidated waste baskets, large lime stone benches for each hole, and multiple levels and areas of erosion control!

This is an AMAZING commitment for the C.O.A., and NOW is the time that Waterloo members, guests, and friends need to show OUR COMMITMENT.

Waterloo has fought, rallied, donated, volunteered, and bled for the DG Community for over 8 YEARS to the C.O.A., so that the COA would show some gratitude and inclined seriousness to helping our beloved sport grow here.

They have stepped up finally, now we MUST ACCEPT and HAVE! Soon when the work begins, the COA will supply the materials for the transformation, 3-4 parks dept. workers, some hauling equipment (bobcats, etc), and a storage building for tools at the site.

Waterloo members, guests, and friends MUST provide volunteer muscle and organization. We have only ONE CHANCE TO GET THIS RIGHT, after all the years of wanting respect and credit. If we get this right, there will be no denying their (COA) support for future projects and other courses when we ask.

There will be volunteer managers, and coordinators posted soon. The many task will include, but not be limited to:
- building erosion controls; laying mulch; course layout/design; building low area cross-overs; positioning signs/markers; various types of course maintenance; team leaders/coordinators; and much, much, more!

The concrete Tee-Boxes will be laid out by a well qualified COA Contractor. They will be about averaged 5ft in the front width, with about a 12ft run up length. These sizes are also naturally depending on the location as to not disturb the natural settings.

So bring your gloves, and your water…put your sweat equity into an investment. Let’s show the members of the PDGA that Austin WILL HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL COURSE…and let’s bring the WORLD'S TOURNAMENTS HERE!

Other Notes from the meeting:
- Volunteers are needed to support the 31st Waterloo Classic
- More Sponsors are needed for the 31st Waterloo Classic
- It is learned that you may bring Toys, and non-perishable foods to the 31st Waterloo so that they may be donated to the RMH so that the families may have them when they need to use the RMH.
- Volunteers and Leaders are need for the weekly Mini’s; so if you can, help out when you are in the area so that the other don’t get burnt out running them every week.

Also, if I need correction from my meeting notes…PLEASE DO SO to avoid any mis-information.
