Just a reminder that Waterloo’s normal Saturday morning Bart mini is cancelled this week (Sat. Sep. 21st), so come on out to Moody’s for a fun day of disc golf and help us raise funds for the 36th Waterloo DG Classic at Hancock Golf Course.

Remember, even if it is rainy this week or even on Saturday, the land out there is very sandy so it never turns into a mud-fest. It is a great place to play when wet.

The mini is also the perfect opportunity to get warmed up for the big HOTT Finale: Oktoberfest, Oct 5th & 6th at Moody’s. Here is a link to that event’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/event...730837554/

Thanks!

There is a "Cactus Patch" work day scheduled THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST, all day. COME HELP!!

Nick Arden will bring his small tree/landscaping crew out there and start about 8 am.

Please bring all the tools you may need to clean a course: gloves, glasses, trimmers, loppers, rakes, mowers, etc. Anything to help.

There is MUCH WORK to be done out there. Lots of trash removal, lots of flight lines to be cleared, etc. So if you are in the area and can help for any amount of time, please do so.
~ help with Phase One.. so we can move towards improving baskets, tee boxes, etc.

The Crosspointe Church wants this disc golf course back into shape for the community and we want to help.

Address: 5703 McNeil Dr, Austin, TX 78729

All day, starting around 8 am.

Thanks!

I’m very sorry to say that we have suffered two recent losses to our disc golf family last week.

On Saturday March 1st, Lance Thompson lost his battle with cancer, he had been fighting it for the past year and a half. People are still making posts on his Facebook page to say goodbye. His wife Nora is planning a celebration of his life later this month or early in April. Here is a link to his obituary in today’s Statesman: www.legacy.com/obituar...=170095828

The day before that, Friday February 28th, Barry Norman lost his battle with cancer too. Barry had been fighting Multiple Myeloma for a number of years, and his wife Holly said that getting out to play disc golf was the one thing he could still do that he really enjoyed. She said his weekly play at the Waterloo League was a true blessing for the both of them. In fact, his last round of disc golf was the final week of our Spring 2013 League. He had undergone radiation treatment on his left arm, but still wanted to come out and get his final score in. Unfortunately, right at the end of the round his left arm snapped as he threw a drive (he threw right handed, but the torque/movement was just too much for his weakened left arm). His cancer did go into remission shortly after that, but came back with a vengeance in December. There won’t be a service anytime soon, but Holly said they’ll be having a celebration of his life likely sometime in May.

I’ll send out more about services/celebrations as I get the details.

Both Lance and Barry were great guys and I will miss them. Please keep their families and friends in your heart.

With a Heavy Sigh,
Gordon

Manor Beautification Project, Workday Sat. Jan 10th

Post Posted: Tue Jan 06, 2015 4:21 pm

This Saturday, Jan 10, 2015, is the first Waterloo Club Workday of the year!

Manor Beautification Project, Workday Sat. Jan 10th

8 am – 2 pm

Food and beer will be provided. What better way to start the new year than by helping get one of our great courses into tip top shape.

What we will be doing:

Remove debris from number 4 creek bed. Weed eat the left side and creek bed.
Create a back entrance on hole number 16 tee box.
Weed eat the right side creek bed and beyond on number 6
Weed eat and generally clean number 9 tee area.
Debris removal from area's that have had fairway expansion.

In addition to the tools listed below please bring a wheel barrel, we will need them for debris removal.

There are many other jobs to do but this will get us started.

This event will happen rain or shine!
Don't forget your water.

Here is a link to the Event’s Facebook Page. Go there and “join” the event so you can keep up with all the latest updates. www.facebook.com/event...198078108/

We need you to bring:
A sunny disposition
Personal water
Gloves

We will also need:
Rakes
Chainsaws
Weed whackers with and without engine
Loppers
Tree saws
Maybe a few shovels

Even if you don’t have tools, come on out to help; we’ll have all the club tools there for volunteers to use.

This will be an ongoing effort to make this course as good as possible. More workdays to come! Plus, Ken and Mike will be spending some time out there during the week keeping things moving along; so there will be opportunities to help out during the week for those who can’t make it on weekends. Keep an eye out on the Facebook Page for when those will be.

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

The weather is reeking havoc with disc golf plans this Saturday.

The Manor Beautification Project Workday that was set for this Saturday has been POSTPONED until next week: Saturday, January 17th.

Cold weather is one thing; rain is another; neither are pleasant but they can be worked through. Combined they really suck, and toss in the possibility of sleet and/or icy roads and that is just bad. So we’ll try again next week.

Also, the weekly Bartholomew Mini this Saturday is cancelled too.

Stay safe, stay warm, and we hope to see you next week!

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

Waterloo DGC has a couple of great volunteer opportunities coming up for those who can’t always make our weekend workdays.

Thursday, February 5th (tomorrow)
Noon
Manor (Travis County East Metro Park)
Ken Shepperd will be out at Manor doing some work on the course. He will be around hole 1. Just bring yourself or loppers too. After a couple of hours it will be time to play some golf. Come on out if you can!

Here is a link to our Facebook event of our next BIG workday out at Manor on Feb. 28th, mid-week workdays and other info will be posted there as well, so go “Join” the event or check back regularly to keep up with the latest www.facebook.com/event...591/?ref=4

Wednesday, February 11th

9:00 am
Zilker

This will be a seedling planting event at the course next week. This planting is done through the Ready, Set, Plant program, which is a partnership between TreeFolks, the Parks Department’s Forestry group and the riparian restoration group in the Watershed Protection department. Volunteers and Forestry staff will be planting about 900 bare root tree seedlings on 3-foot centers throughout what will be the un-mowed “roughs” at this site. TreeFolks will provide snacks, coffee and hot chocolate. More information is available at the TreeFolks website - www.treefolks.org/volu...rtunities/

This is our disc golf course, let’s go join the other volunteers in helping make it better! Waterloo DGC will also bring some stuff for the disc golfers who come out. When you sign in, be sure to indicate you are a disc golfer.

Thanks!

Tomorrow evening (Thur. Mar 12th) has a couple of things going on.

The first is the start of Spring WaterLeague at Zilker; this is week #1 in the 10 week league, flex start between 4:30 – 5:30 pm. (more info is below)

The second thing is the presentation of the draft Master Plan for the big Onion Creek Metropolitan Park. This is the final public meeting about the Master Plan. Please show up to either voice support for disc golf if they have included it and/or ask for more golf (if they have one course only, let’s ask for two – a pro course and a beginner course), OR if they have left us out completely, then we need to make sure they hear from us of the need and the desire for disc golf to be included.

The meeting is:
Thursday, March 12, 2015 • 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Widen Elementary School
5605 Nuckols Crossing Road • Austin, Texas 78744-4615

Please come to the meeting! You can either start league on week #2 next week, or do like I’m going to do: get to league as close to 4:30 as I can today, play right away, and then head over to the meeting when my round is done. The timing should work out just about right.

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More Spring WaterLeague Info:

Every Thursday @ Zilker Park

Flex Tee time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm, sign up Hole #1 South

We will be playing twice around the South 9. (We will start playing the full course for our Summer WaterLeague.)

• 10-week singles league; best 5 scores count
• $20 to join with an optional one-time $5 league ace pot that is split evenly between all aces hit during league play
• You can play all 10 weeks and drop your worst 5 scores; you can play just 5 weeks and all your scores will count; or anywhere in between. You can join the league any time during the first 6 weeks.

During the 10-week league, if the course is soaked from rain and too muddy, we will cancel league for that night and make it up with an extra Thursday night at the end. Playing most of the courses around Central Texas in the mud can cause a lot of damage so we will try to avoid that if we can.

If the weather is questionable on a Thursday, check the club’s Facebook Page and Twitter feed that afternoon to find out if we have cancelled league (we will also try to post it in the Fellow Disc Golfers Facebook Page). We will try to make the call by 3:30 pm (and 4:00 pm at the latest), and will then post the information.

If the weather is fine, we won’t post anything about cancelled/not-cancelled; just assume it is on. But if the weather is bad/iffy/questionable, check for posts before heading down to Zilker.

For more information about Spring WaterLeague, please call the club at (512) 994-9508, or check out Waterloo’s Facebook page.
