Just a reminder about the mulching at Bartholomew this Saturday, April 27th, 9:00 am – 12: 30 pm. They would love for participants to pre-register (it helps them with their logistics, like getting enough tools etc). Just click the “calendar” link below, choose the Bart event , and give them your name, email address, and how many people are coming with you. The email address then allows them to notify you of any changes to the event.

Even if you don’t pre-register, please go on out Saturday morning and pitch in (and let them know you are a disc golfer who loves Bartholomew Park Smile ). Even an hour or two can make a big difference.

The mulching of some trees at Bartholomew has been re-scheduled for April 27th, starting at 9 am. This is an Austin Park’s Foundation event in conjunction with the Windsor Park Neighborhood Assoc. You can get more info and pre-register online for it at: www.austinparks.org/calendar.html They will be spreading mulch for 20 trees, near the Splash Pad but closer to the creek. Meet at the Pavilion parking lot. Contact Bill Stout at 512.477.1566 x5 or bill @ austinparks.org

These trees are not on the disc golf course, but The Windsor Park Neighborhood Assoc. has been a huge supporter of keeping disc golf at Bartholomew (we wish all our course’s neighbors liked us as much as they do), so let’s show our appreciation by helping them out and helping the park out at the same time. Hopefully when we start doing our projects out there, they will be able to get some volunteers to help us.

Thanks!

Just a heads-up for everyone that…

ZILKER HOLES #14 - #18 WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED ON THE MORNING AND AFTERNOON OF FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH

This is to accommodate a mulching project on Friday coordinated by the Austin Heritage Tree Foundation and the Texas School for the Deaf. There will be a lot of deaf kids down there helping to spread the mulch, so this temporary closing will give them a good safe area around where they are working.

The holes will re-open mid-to-late Friday afternoon after the project is complete. Until then, after you finish hole #13 just head back across the park road to #1 or #2.

Thank you for your cooperation!

The Austin Parks Foundation has cancelled the mulching workday at Bartholomew that HAD been scheduled for tomorrow. They have set a tentative re-scheduled date of April 27th, but we’ll let you know when that is confirmed.

The rain we recently received was WONDERFUL, but apparently there was too much of it at the park for the workday to happen.

Thanks,

The Austin Parks Foundation and Windsor Park Neighborhood Assoc. is having a workday at Bartholomew Park this Saturday, April 6th, from 9:00 am – 12: 30 pm. They are bringing out a bunch of mulch (40 cubic yards) and hope to mulch the 35+ trees south of the ball fields and north of the creek.

We could really use some disc golfers to go out and help with the project. We all know how important trees are and it's a lot of mulch to move; and right now after the rains is a great time to mulch the trees and help them through the long, hot summer.

APF will provide wheelbarrows, shovels, forks, rakes. Please bring gloves, hats, sunscreen, water bottles and snacks (and it can’t hurt to bring your own shovels or rakes either).

They would love you to pre-register on the APF site: austinparks.org/calend...email_list (just click on the “more info” link under the listing for this project).

But even if you don’t pre-register, and even if it is a last minute decision, just go on down there to help. There is no such thing as too many volunteers when it comes to spreading out that much mulch, and even an hour or two of your time would be a great thing to do.

The Windsor Park Neighborhood Assoc. has been a huge supporter of keeping disc golf at Bartholomew (we wish all our course’s neighbors liked us as much as they do), so let’s show our appreciation by helping them out and helping the park out at the same time.

The Waterloo Club’s workday at Roy G. on March 2nd has been approved, we are now part of Austin Parks Foundation’s huge It’s My Park Day event. You can register for our project at:

austinparks.org/multi-...ectproject

If you can, please bring any or all of the following: loppers, chainsaws, wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, weed eaters, and a water bottle

Volunteers who register will get a shirt plus other goodies from some of the event sponsors.

Saturday, March 2nd
10 am – 2 pm

But you don’t have to register to come out to our workday or any of the others (Searight, Wells Branch, Manor, or the creek cleanup at Bart). All the projects need lots of folks, and the more people we have the more work we can do to make our disc golf courses better.

We will also be working there at Roy G. on Sunday March 3rd, 9 am – 2 pm, so come on out one day or both.

Beer and other drinks, plus snacks will be available on both days.

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

Saturday March 2nd is shaping up to be the biggest disc golf workday in Austin’s history!

1) Waterloo Disc Golf Club is planning a workday at Roy G. that day, starting at 10 am (going until about 2 pm).

We are still waiting on confirmation of being part of the big It’s My Park day event, but even if we aren’t officially part of that we will still be having the workday.

Mulching, removing fallen trees and those huge thorn vines, and trash pickup will all be part of it. There will be drinks and snacks for the volunteers, including cold frosty beverages compliments of the Texas States group!

We will also be working at Roy G. on Sunday, March 3rd – finishing up projects that we don’t complete on Saturday. Josh Rippie is heading up both of these work days (thanks Josh!)

2) SADA (South Austin Disc Assoc) will be having a work day at Searight that day, from 7 am until about 11 am; part of It’s My Park Day; drinks and food available for the volunteers; more info and sign up here: austinparks.org/multi-...ectproject

3) WBDGC (Wells Branch Disc Golf Club) will be having a work day at Wells Branch that day, from 9 am until 12 pm; part of It’s My Park Day; drinks and snacks available for the volunteers; more info and sign up here: austinparks.org/multi-...ectproject

4) Mitch Justice will be heading up a work day at Manor that day, starting at 10 am; finishing up the long process of getting the course ready for Texas State DG Championships. A lot has been done during the past few work days, but there is still more to do – that course was in need of a LOT of help and we are almost there. drinks and food available for the volunteers.

5) Finally, the Windsor Park Neighborhood Assoc. (the neighbors of Bartholomew Park) is having a It’s My Park Day event there at Bart on March 2nd. Part of it will be cleaning debris and trash out of the creek – the whole length of it; quite a bit of that creek goes through the disc golf course. If you want to work on that project instead, go for it! It will make our course nicer, and when you show up let them know you’re a disc golfer that loves Bart ? The link to register for this project is: austinparks.org/multi-...ectproject

For the It’s My Park Day projects, go to those links or go to austinparks.org/its-my...k-day.html and pick a project, there are a ton to choose from; volunteers who register will get a shirt plus other goodies from some of the event sponsors.

If Waterloo gets approval for our Roy G. workday to be part of it, we’ll post that link too.

Thanks, and mark your calendars for next Saturday, March 2nd – please plan on helping out at one of these great projects. Your disc golf courses, and your friends, will thank you!

Just a reminder about the Waterloo Club’s workday at the Manor disc golf course tomorrow (Travis County East Metro Park). Should be cool in the morning and then it will turn into a beautiful day for working on the course.

Also, Vinnie & Blake will be bringing BEER for the volunteers!!!

There is a lot to do, both in terms of regular maintenance as well as getting the course ready for the huge Texas States Disc Golf Championships (a National Tour event), so we could really use a good turnout.

Saturday, Feb 16th
9:00 am – 1:00ish

~ Meet at Hole 1 ~

All extra hands & help are appreciated. If you can, please bring loppers, weed eaters, garden rakes & chain saws. Work gloves are always helpful too!

Here is a link to the park’s facebook page, and there is a map there too. www.facebook.com/#!/pa...82?fref=ts

From Hwy 290 east, turn right on Loop 212 (there is a traffic light here). According to the map it is also called W. Murray Ave and/or N. Lexington Street. Continue down 212/Lexington until you reach Blake Manor Rd. Turn left on Blake Manor Rd. Go several miles (about 4 I think?), turn right into the first park entrance. Follow that road all the way until it dead ends near a couple of large pavilions, and park there. Hole #1 is by the very end of that parking lot/road.

Hope to see you out there!

Waterloo is having a last-minute, mid-week workday tomorrow at Circle C!

Matt Papa and Josh Rippie will be out at Circle C tomorrow (Wednesday, April 18th) spreading mulch. They could use some help raking it out and making it beautiful. They will have some rakes provided, but feel free to bring your own tools.

7am - 1pm or so.

Thank You to SADA for getting some mulch out there for us.

Disc Golf Association (DGA) is having a contest to give away a 9-hole course. This is not the usual raffle but an essay contest and voting for the best essays is what moves them on in the contest.

There is still plenty of time to enter yourself. Also, voting on existing entries continues until mid-July.

Our own Troy Herman wrote one, and we encourage you to go check it out and vote for it; it is called Play it Forward.

You can vote for up to 5 essays PER DAY, so go back every day and pick your favorite(s). I think all you need to do to be eligible to vote is to “Like” the page (though you do also have to be a facebook member).

There is also an entry there from Scott Hougland, called Central Texas Temp Course.

The link to the contest is: apps.facebook.com/cont...sts/93874/

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE Very Happy

Thanks,

The Lone Star Deaf Disc Golf Assoc. (LSDDGA) and the Austin Bible Ridge Church are having a workday this Sunday, May 22nd.

The goal is to get the course looking and playing better for the National Deaf Disc Golf Championships being held here in Austin next weekend. Please come on out and help, this is a great chance to support our local deaf disc golf community and to give back to the church that gave us disc golfers such a cool course to play on.

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

LSDDGA & the church sent the following info:

The project is from 9:00am to 1:00pm this Sunday, May 22. We will meet at the church at 9:00 am (there is a little pavilion by hole #1) to go over the project list and put some teams together. We'll be putting out shredded mulch on T-Boxes, picking up trash, cleaning disc baskets, and chalking the Out of Bounds.

The church has some rakes and forks for mulch and trash bags. You will want to bring gloves, hat, sunscreen, etc. and comfortable shoes (if you are familiar with the course it can be a little challenging terrain).

We will also provide water and snacks for the day.

Any other equipment you think might help with the spruce-up feel free to bring. Wheelbarrow would be good. Maybe something to trim vines, undergrowth around baskets or T-Boxes.

Here is the follow-up from last month's William David Lang V Memorial, April 9, 2011, Steeplechase Park in Kyle

Twenty four players competed in the tournament plus at least that many friends, neighbors, and other family members came down to the park to enjoy the day and to take part in the celebration of William’s life. Thanks to the incredible amounts of sponsorship from Williams family, neighbors, and friends, plus Disc Nation’s incredible support, we were able to make huge payouts to the players (between 325% - 350%, and we paid out to all 24 players). In addition to this great payout, we also raised $850 for the charity Austin Recovery.

Open players paid in $80 and were paid out $290 in cash.

Open
1 Mondo Flores 60 59 119 $150
2 Adam Hernandez59 70 129 $90
3 Aaron Stair 69 67 136 $30
4 Matt Harris 70 69 139 $20

Amateur players paid in $300 and were paid out $985 in Disc Nation gift certificates.

Adv. Master
1 Damon Cotter 63 64 127 $85
2 Stevo Barnes 65 63 128 $50
3 Bert Lirette 74 71 145 $30

2 Roy Wright 61 59 120 $110
3 Roger George 62 62 124 $75
T4 Spencer Liscano 61 64 125 $40
T4 Emilio Herrera 64 61 125 $40
6 Tony Dieterick 63 63 126 $20
7 Seth Rogers 63 65 128 $15
8 Shane Finger 70 68 138 $15
9 Sid Doyle 73 999 DNF $15

Recreational
1 Robert Wyatt 66 999 DNF $40

Novice
1 W. David Lang IV 64 73 137 $50
2 Bob Stillinger 77 999 DNF $15
3 Ron Benton 88 999 DNF $15

No aces, but Roger George won $40 in the ace-pot CTP afterwards.

Thanks again to Mary Baker and David Lang (William’s parents), Disc Nation, Kyle Parks Depts, and all the great sponsors! Plus I couldn’t have done this without the awesome help of Damon Neth, Roger & Stephanie Allen, Troy Herman, Roger George, Aaron Stair, and Glenn Schleicher.

One final reminder about the William David Lang V Memorial Disc Golf Tournament this Saturday in Kyle. There is still time to pre-register through Disc Nation, the event will be up on the site until 10 pm tonight. www.discnation.com/Lan...ament.html

And we expect plenty of folks just to come down to the park Saturday morning, you can sign up between 8 – 9 am.

We will have added cash for all the Pro divisions and added merch for all the Am divisions, plus other prizes to give away.

Also, we are still looking for last-minute sponsors. If you have anything you can bring down to the park that morning or during the day, please do it; discs, shirts, hats, minis, gift certificates, cash donations. We’ll gladly accept it all!

I’ll be at Zilker Park this evening for League, so you can bring it to me there if you want. We’ll make tee signs for any sponsorship of $50 or more (cash or merchandise).

William’s parents will be cooking some food for sale at lunch, and we’ll be doing a course clean-up following the awards (nothing fancy, just taking some trash bags out on the course to pick up any litter that is around).

Thanks!
Gordon
